Find out what makes dental cleanings so vital to your dental health.

What to Expect at Your Next Visit

When you come into our Sebastian dental office every six months you can always expect two components to your visit: the check-up and the cleaning. Once a year we will also run X-rays to make sure that there aren’t any issues that can’t be seen with the naked eye.

During your check-up we will examine your teeth, gums and soft tissue to detect any problems such as decay, plaque, tartar buildup or suspicious growths. With about half of the American population dealing with some form of gum disease, these six-month visits are important to maintaining good oral health. If left untreated, gum disease not only causes tooth and bone loss but also can increase your chances of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and a heart attack. Luckily, if caught in the earliest stages by your Sebastian general dentist we can actually reverse gum disease.

Besides checking the health of your teeth and gums, we will also look at your tongue, throat, neck and head for any swelling, cancer or signs of infection.

The second part of your visit involves a thorough dental cleaning. You may not understand why you need one every six months when you already brush your teeth regularly, but we have the tools to remove discolorations and stains, as well as plaque and tartar. Your toothbrush won’t be able to remove tartar, or hardened plaque. Only we can.

If you’re due for your next dental cleaning call our Sebastian dental office today to schedule your next appointment. Let Sebastian River Dentistry put your oral health first!
